After you juice or snack on oranges, the peels usually go straight into the bin. Those scraps are packed with natural oils that can freshen rooms, cut odours, and replace many store-bought air fresheners—often with things you already have in the kitchen.

Why orange peels actually work

Citrus rind holds D-limonene, a plant oil with a bright, clean scent. It does more than cover up smells: limonene can help break down or bind with some odour-causing compounds in the air, so the result feels fresher rather than “perfume over garbage.”
